What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form.  Also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it.  The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/.  After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

The reasons why we collect it are to be able to have business relations with our clients.  Also, to adhere to the rules, regulations, and laws of the authorities under which jurisdictions it applies.

Media

You should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.  If you don't know how to do this, you can find programs online which assist in removing this data.  You can contact us, and we can show you how to do this as part of our Business Services.

Contact forms

We have removed the Contact Forms.  Any contact you make with The Australian Business Services Network will be stored encrypted on our email provider's servers.

Cookies

When you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. This is so you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. The cookies will last for one year.

When you log in, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

We will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices.  Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year.  Selecting "Remember Me", causes your login to persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

Editors

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser.  This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited.  It expires after 1 day.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.).  Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These other websites may:

  • collect data about you,
  • use cookies,
  • embed additional third-party tracking,

Who we share your data with

Where there is a legal obligation for us to share your data, it will be shared.  Take note that what you type in the way of comments may be automatically recorded by other service providers.  This has nothing to do with us.

Also, your information will be used for the purpose of providing the product or service you require.  Only the necessary data will be used.

The website service provider may themselves store data.  Additionally, any third-party services that are not directly involved with us may store your data.  We are not responsible for the data that they collect, nor know necessarily who is collecting this data.  You will have to check their individual privacy policies to ensure that you are satisfied when visiting their sites.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely.  When you delete your comment, it will not show up on the website here. There are other web crawlers who snapshot websites at any specific time.  This means your comments may be seen in the future, even after deletion from here.

For registered users on our website, we store the personal information provided in their user profile.  All users can see, edit, or delete their own personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username).  Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request your data.  We can send an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you provided.  You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you.  This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where we send your data

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.  There is no underlying business or other agent who The Australian Business Services Network specifically sends data to. This excludes what is default by setting up in our running of our website and business.

Your contact information

You can change and correct your contact information at any time.

How we protect your data

Our website is https, and our emails are encrypted on our end.  We also keep our site updated with the latest features as they are added to the web service provider.

What automated decision making and/or profiling we do with user data

There is no automation with your data behind the scenes by us (other than business administration).  Companies like Google, Facebook, and Twitter, as well as others who you link to have their own analysis systems.  These companies may have agreements in place with our Internet Service Providers.
